On December 2, 2023, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a final rule (opens in new window) that will sharply reduce methane and other harmful air pollutants from the oil and natural gas industry, including from hundreds of thousands of existing sources nationwide. Oil and Natural Gas Super Emitter Program - June 25, 2024, 1 to 3 p.m. Eastern time.
As part of its final rule to reduce methane emissions from oil and natural gas operations, EPA developed a Super Emitter Program to leverage third-party expertise to find large leaks and releases known as "super emitters." This webinar will cover: the use of advanced methane detection technologies to find super emitter events, the process seeking approval to use a detection technology under the program and the process for becoming certified to submit information. The webinar also will discuss how third parties will provide super-emitter information to EPA and how the Agency will process and review the data prior to notifying owners and operators of a potential super-emitter event.

This webinar focused on the options in the final rule for using advanced methane detection technologies, such as satellite monitoring, aerial surveys, and continuous monitors, to find leaks or Super-Emitter events. The webinar included details on the process for applying to use alternative test methods and what needs to be included in the application.
