Electric Power Systems Partnership

  • Industry Best Practices

Review the best practices to reduce emissions of SF6 from electric power industry experience.

  • Alternative Technologies

Review considerations for vacuum and fluorinated gas alternative technologies for high voltage applications.

  • Alternatives Benefits Calculator

The SF6 Alternatives Benefits Calculator helps transmission and distribution utilities evaluate the total lifecycle cost and environmental impacts of different circuit breaker technologies.

Established in 1999, the SF6 Emission Reduction Partnership for Electric Power Systems was a collaborative effort between EPA and the electric power industry to identify, recommend, and implement cost-effective solutions to reduce sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) emissions. SF6 is a highly potent greenhouse gas that is used in the industry for insulation and current interruption in electric transmission and distribution equipment.

The Partnership is no longer active, but the resources on this website have been archived for entities interested in learning about proven best practices and exploring alternative technologies in pursuit of SF6 emission reductions to ensure cost-effective, reliable, and safe American electricity delivery.
