Environmental Response Laboratory Network Programs and Tools

About ERLN | Membership | Programs and Tools

One of the benefits of the ERLN is access to programs and tools, including the ERLN Dilute Chemical Agent Program, the Compendium  of Environmental Testing Laboratories, and data management using MyEXES.

ERLN Dilute Chemical Agent Program

The ERLN Dilute Chemical Agent program allows member laboratories to calibrate their analytical instrumentation with analytical instrumentation with dilute chemical warfare agent standards in a safe and efficient manner. The goal of the Dilute Chemical Agent program is to provide the EPA response community with verified laboratory capacity for chemical agent analysis in environmental samples with detection limits lower than health risk-based clearance levels. Currently, there are five federal and state laboratories in the program.

Compendium of Environmental Testing Laboratories

All laboratories accepted into the Environmental Response Laboratory Network are required to register and maintain a current laboratory record in the EPA Compendium of Environmental Testing Laboratories (or Laboratory Compendium). The CETL is a limited-access database containing information about the analytical capabilities and capacities of environmental laboratories nationwide to analyze chemical, biological, and radiological agents. It is available to EPA; federal, state, and local emergency responders; laboratory personnel; and water utilities.

Emergency responders can use the CETL to execute customized searches and rapidly identify laboratory resources based on the situational analytical need. Approved users can search the database on criteria such as laboratory location, analytical capabilities, instrumentation, and support services. For assistance identifying laboratory resources in support of an environmental response, please contact ERLN Help Desk ([email protected]).

ERLN Data Management Using MyEXES

The Electronic Data Exchange and Evaluation System is a data assessment and management tool that efficiently evaluates analytical laboratory data regardless of the format. MyEXES is the version that ERLN uses for data management during a response. It was developed to assist with the rapid processing, assessment, and distribution of analytical data submitted to EPA. The tool provides a centralized system that enables data submissions, electronically assessed data, and provides users with automatically generated reports. ERLN outputs through MyEXES are also configured to conform to the ICLN Data Exchange Utility, which allows for rapid transfer of data between ICLN networks during a coordinated response.
