Climate Adaptation – Water Quality and Health

Biologist studying water quality
EPA works with states, tribes, operators of public water systems, and certified laboratories to ensure safe drinking water. EPA also supports local and state efforts to protect and clean recreational waters such as lakes and beaches by supporting the monitoring and notification efforts of local water programs.

Drinking water quality

An increase in average temperature and frequency and intensity of storms, may affect drinking and recreational water quality.

Recreational water quality

Stormwater runoff from intense storms may carry pollutants and sewage, possibly decreasing recreational water quality.
